Secrets of W B Yeats Landscape

Secrets of W B Yeats Landscape

The W B Yeats Landscape surrounds the town of Gort in the Burren Lowlands in County Galway. The limestone region hosts a mysterious river that keeps disappearing and reappearing. There are some wonderful rare geological formations to explore as well as some ancient holy sites. We visit a deep river cave and a series of collapsed caves in beautiful woodland. This is part of the WB Yeats Landscape as he used to picnic here with his benefactor Lady Gregory. Here you can hear the healing sounds of the drum and gong played to add to the atmosphere and help you merge with the wonders of nature. A Mysterious River Further up a magical tiny road that follows the river Beagh, we stop at hidden sites such as a holy well and a church that has been there since at least the ninth century. This church was probably part of a longer pilgrimage route to Holy Island on Lough Derg. We can dowse the water and energy lines too. Next along the road is a delightful thatched cottage whose owner invites you for tea and great home baked goods in her sheltered courtyard. Finally we can explore and learn the sad history of a Mass rock and “bullaun” set in a stone circle close to an old settlement long gone. A Writer’s Inspiration If you want to extend this tour to a full day you can have lunch in Coole Park, former estate of Lady Gregory and walk through the dry turlough in Summer to the adjacent native woodland of Garrylands. This all the old haunt of Yeats and so is...

Yeats Country South Galway

Yeats Country South Galway

Wander round what is known affectionately as Yeats Country. Breathe in the air and drink in the scenery that fed Yeat’s fertile imagination! This is in South Galway where WB Yeats was at his most creative, for he felt happiest living there. Follow an enchanting route round the Burren Lowlands that inspired Yeats to write some of his finest poems. We can read the poems he wrote as we stop at the various sites. 2015 is the centenary year of William Butler Yeats. He was the literary giant of Ireland, and he chose to live for many years with his wife George in Ballylee Castle near Gort. He romantically changed its name to Thor Ballylee . There he composed much poetry, and on this tour some of his poems can be heard in situ where he composed them. This experience brings home the words Yeats Country to you. He was a frequent visitor to Coole Park nearby where the widowed Lady Augusta Gregory lived. She hosted many famous literati and artists of her day, and launched Ireland’s first national theatre the Abbey Theatre. Collectively these Anglo-Irish friends embraced and reinvigorated Irish culture. Even to this day the area attracts a lot of artists and writers. We can travel between these two domains, and venture to a few other relevant sites that are off the beaten track. In the grounds of the old estate of Coole we can view the famous Autograph Tree, the bark upon which many of Ireland’s cultural figures signed their initials. Coole Park borders a large turlough (disappearing lake) that is the hallmark of the area geologically. We also...

Spiritual tour of The Burren: backbone of the Burren, Wild Atlantic Way Ireland

Explore the true nature of the Burren through a guided spiritual tour of the Burren in County Clare and County Galwy with local author Jackie Queally. If you want to explore the entire region of the Burren it would take you several days, as the Burren is a wild region traversed by minor, twisting roads that lead nowhere in particular! In order to get a true flavour of the Burren we select a range of experiences and sites for you, depending on where you are staying and your particular interests. Jackie can come to meet you at your accommodation and accompany you on the tour, or meet at the normal pick up points of Kinvara or Gort. Price will vary slightly according to distances involved. Contact Earthwise in the first instance. I'm still reflecting on all the inspirations you left me with. It's days after that I begin to realize you're doing really special work. Climbing up and down the rocks with you was probably the most special experience I had in Ireland. Melissa Huang San Francisco translator/editor Thanks again for everything we enjoyed the trip and certainly had some great laughs. Our favorite place there was the farmer’s land and the fairy circle in the Burren. Cindy Jensen California To help you connect with the earth energies of the Burren our spiritual tour of the Burren typically includes an opportunity to try your hand at using dowsing rods, so you can have some fun learning to dowse at sites. Jackie can offer sound therapy at a holy well and other quiet sites. The gong and drum both helps to expand your consciousness and enhances...
